Job Title: Head of Legal

Location: Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Recruitment Summit: The selected candidate must be available to attend the Recruitment Summit in London in May (exact dates and venue to be confirmed).

Job Summary:

The Head of Legal will oversee all legal affairs for the company's operations in the DRC. This senior leadership role requires a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in corporate law, regulatory compliance, contract management, and risk mitigation within the telecommunications or infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will provide strategic legal guidance to the executive team, ensure compliance with local and international laws, and protect the company's interests in all legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Strategy and Compliance: Develop and implement legal strategies that align with business objectives and ensure compliance with local and international regulations.

  • Contract Management: Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of contracts, ensuring they meet legal standards and protect the company's interests.

  • Regulatory Affairs: Maintain relationships with regulatory bodies, ensuring timely compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard the company.

  • Dispute Resolution: Manage and resolve legal disputes, including litigation and arbitration, in a manner that aligns with the company's best interests.

  • Corporate Governance: Ensure adherence to corporate governance standards and provide legal support to the board of directors as needed.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the legal team, fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement.



Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Law; a Master's degree or equivalent legal qualification is preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, with at least 5 years in a senior legal position within the telecommunications, infrastructure, or related sectors.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the legal and regulatory environment in the DRC, including telecommunications laws and corporate governance standards.

  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in French and English is required.
