Verizon is looking for a talented attorney to be part of a fast-moving, collaborative legal team responsible for supporting Verizon’s strategic sourcing transactions handled within Verizon’s Supply Chain Services organization and related supplier negotiations and initiatives. The Supply Chain Services organization is part of the Verizon Global Services unit, and is responsible for sourcing contracts with a value of over $25B annually. Verizon depends on the organization to help reduce expense, increase margin and maximize shareholder value. The successful candidate must be a skilled and seasoned lawyer with significant experience advising on commercial transactions.  We are looking for someone with excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills. In addition to working directly with the Sourcing and Supply Chain team, the attorney will work closely with the client/user groups across the broader business, as well as internal stakeholder teams such as Privacy, Information/Corporate Security and others to maximize business value from our supplier’s many offerings.

What you'll be doing:

  • Draft, negotiate and review sourcing contracts and provide advice on commercial transactions across various categories of products and services, such as software/cloud, professional services, network assets, telecom transport and many others.  Work closely with other professionals in our Sourcing and Contract Management teams to bring deals home.

  • Understand the Verizon business or value goals underlying sourcing transactions, and what legal provisions and performance measures will support those goals.  Balance those goals against legal, business, policy and reputational risks, and make reasoned decisions to accept the risks where appropriate.

  • Advise senior management on key commercial transactions, providing advice and guidance on complex contract issues and appropriate risk allocation for strategic and core business transactions.

  • Provide day-to-day interpretive support for various teams throughout the business who may need to know the meaning of the contracts they depend on, and how to practically comply with them.

  • Provide advice and guidance on compliance issues related to sourcing and procurement matters, integrating awareness of major Verizon processes and policies (including information security requirements, privacy requirements, and others).

  • Observe and assess how our large-scale, high volume, time-sensitive contracting processes are working, and improve throughput and quality by developing and enhancing terms responding to new technologies (such as AI) and recurring legal pain points.  Develop positions, fallbacks and process improvements to increase contract velocity, and build alignment on them with other functions.  Develop training if needed.

  • Assess legislative or regulatory developments with actual or potential impact on Supply Chain/supplier matters, with particular emphasis on evolving Privacy and emerging Supply Chain Due Diligence requirements.  Be able to lead collaborative, team-based compliance strategies  in response.

  • Manage adversarial negotiations, and high pressure, stressful situations, while always being professional and respectful.

  • Be a self-starter who takes initiative to develop, lead, and implement special projects.

  • Coordinate with other in-house counsel and non-legal functions on a wide variety of issues related to Verizon’s sourcing activities.

What we are looking for:

You'll need to have:

  • Law degree from an accredited law school in the U.S. or Ireland.

  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar in the U.S. or a license to practice law in Ireland.

  • Experience as a practicing attorney in a large law firm or in-house legal department with relevant transactional experience.

  • Willingness to travel when required.

Even better if you have one of the following:

  • Well-honed project management and organisational skills to closely manage multiple and complex projects and negotiations and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with attention to detail.

  • Knowledge and substantive experience advising the business on a variety of legal issues

  • Ability to interact effectively with personnel in various roles and levels across the organization, and enforce legal requirements.

  • Proven ability to identify business and legal problems and to develop and lead implementation of creative solutions.

  • Strong written and oral communication, problem solving, business judgment and strategic thinking skills.

  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of G Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Mail, etc.).

  • Strong interpersonal skills, motivational and leadership skills
